I am

I am not my skin colour

Nor the size of my chest

I am not what the scales read

Or the lump in my breast

I am not my recovery

Or how long I’ve been clean

To judge me on it is really quite mean

For I’m more than my story

Deeper than my addiction

Stronger than any withdrawal

And in need of affection

Don’t judge me for freckles, on scarring or lines

Look inside my shell and read the true signs

For I’m more than appearance

Is that all you see?

If you scrape off the surface

There’s so much more to me

My true beauty is inside

I hide it away

But you’ll only see it

If you choose to stay.

I may not always show it

Its a valuable find

For my beauty is priceless

And I’m one of a kind
